Toronto Park BBQ Rules & Permits: Event Planning Guide

A practical starting point for planning a Toronto park BBQ with rental equipment. Confirm all current rules directly with the City of Toronto before your event.

01

Start with the park booking

The City of Toronto states that a booking is required for all park gatherings involving more than 25 people and for gatherings that want to bring their own BBQ. A booking reserves a specific spot, and the City notes that fees, insurance, set-up fees, or a damage deposit may apply depending on the event.

Toronto BBQ Rentals does not issue or guarantee City permits. The customer is responsible for confirming the current permit, park, and venue requirements.

  • Confirm the picnic area and date
  • Confirm the group size and event permit requirements
  • Confirm vehicle access and loading restrictions
  • Keep a copy of the permit where required
02

Portable propane BBQ guidance

The City of Toronto’s park rules state that small portable propane barbecues are permitted at picnic areas, excluding Toronto Island. The City also notes that some picnic areas have permanent barbecues with different fuel rules. Confirm the exact park and current booking conditions before selecting equipment.

03

Plan the event equipment

Build the equipment plan around the guest count, menu, cooking schedule, event duration, and access route. For a commercial grill rental, include the event address, preferred timing, and any details about stairs, gates, or loading areas in the booking or quote request.
