Commercial grill planning guide

How Many People Can a Commercial BBQ Grill Feed?

Guest count is only one part of BBQ capacity. Use the menu, serving window, cooking team, and grill surface together when planning an event.

01

Use capacity as a planning guide

Toronto BBQ Rentals uses a practical guide of roughly 50 to 80 guests for one commercial 8-burner grill. Two grills can provide a planning range of 80 to 160 guests. These are planning ranges, not guarantees, because event throughput changes with the menu and service plan.

02

What affects cooking throughput

A grill serving burgers and sausages during a staggered lunch can move guests through differently than a grill serving chicken, vegetables, or multiple made-to-order items. The available prep space, cook experience, food preparation, and serving schedule also matter.

  • Menu items and cooking temperatures
  • How much food is prepped before service
  • Length of the serving window
  • Number of people cooking
  • Whether the event needs one or two grills
03

Plan for a 100-person event

For a group near 100 people, think beyond the grill itself. Confirm whether guests are served in one rush or in waves, whether food is pre-cooked or raw, how many people are cooking, and whether a second grill reduces pressure on the service window.
